As the years go on, infertility and other ways of conceiving have been explored and utilized. Sometimes we are afraid to ask those hard questions or afraid to move forward with something we know nothing about. I am an open book and thought it might be helpful to others to talk about my experience as I go through it (hopefully people are reading this!) and if no one is reading this at least it is therapeutic to write my feelings out.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is the process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body. IVF works by using a combination of medicines and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilize an egg. Most of the time the IVF process is finished and the final product gets implanted back into the woman's uterus, but in some cases it does not.

I am one of those cases where the IVF process is a way for someone to have a child without having to bear a child themselves. (bear, bare? does anyone know the difference, clearly i do not) I have Marfan Syndrome, a rare connective tissue disorder (more on this later) and unfortunately my doctor, my family and I have decided it is not safe for me to carry my own children. To get that news at 27 wasn't easy. I was never a huge kids person, but being told it is unsafe to have your own children is life-changing. But I am a firm believer in things happen for a reason and God does not give you things you cannot handle.

As soon as I found out I couldn't have my own kids, I had my grieving moment and then immediately went into planning mode. I found a fertility clinic and made myself an appointment. Damien Fertility Partners has been an amazing resource and has really helped myself and my boyfriend through this hard process. I also had an amazing partner in my boyfriend who has been so supportive through this process, that we are going through together.
